The cover itself shows how the main author of the Economic Survey 2012-13 is different from the one who penned the pre-budget documents the previous three years. Unlike predecessor Kaushik Basu, Chief Economic Advisor in the finance ministry Raghuram Rajan preferred a graph depicting the global trade share of the major Asian markets -" India, China, Indonesia and Korea -" instead of one based on a theoritical model.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs is likely to consider the proposal to allow export of additional 5 million tonne of wheat from the government godowns to clear surplus stock ahead of arrival of new crop, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said today. "The proposal on wheat export is on the agenda of tomorrow's CCEA meeting. Let's see what will happen," Pawar told reporters on the sidelines of 'Krishi Vighyan Mela'.

India and Portugal have agreed for an early conclusion of the India-EU Broad based Trade and Investment agreement (BTIA) negotiations. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma in a meeting with Paulo Portas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal here yesterday said that "intensive engagements on part of the two sides are a reflection of their desire to finalising a balanced trade agreement at the earliest.

India and Kazakhstan today decided to strengthen their strategic partnership with new initiatives to boost their trade and economic ties. At talks between External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and visiting Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov, the two sides reviewed all aspects of their bilateral relationship, which now encompasses a number of strategic sectors including defence, civil nuclear energy and hydrocarbons, and agreed to explore possibilities of creating direct trade and energy corridors between the two countries.
