Germany resumes Indian grape imports

Germany has recommenced with ordering table grapes from India after blocking their import for the last two years. The move comes after meetings between an Indian delegation with the German authorities in Berlin. In the 2010 grapes season European countries rejected shipments of Indian grapes after chemical residues were discovered. After the government and exported took steps to improve the quality of the fruits most EU countries began .....

Iran in talks about buying Russian, Indian wheat

Iran's state grains agency Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC) is in talks about buying several hundred thousand tonne of Russian and Indian wheat, European traders said on Monday. "I think we could see some large new deals agreed this week," one trader said. "It is hard to assess the quantities but hundreds of thousands of tonnes could be involved." Pawar bats for more exports of rice, sugar, wheat

The Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, feels that additional exports of sugar, rice and wheat could be allowed as the country has sufficient stocks. “There's enough stock to allow export of at least one more million tonne of sugar, rice and wheat (each),” Mr Pawar said on Monday. He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Kharif 2012 strategy conference. The Government has, so far, allowed 2 million tonnes of sugar exports .....

Radiation technique helps improve 39 crop varieties

Radiation and chemical-induced mutation and subsequent use in recombination breeding at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has resulted in the release of 39 improved crop varieties in oilseeds and pulses in India, said Dr Ratan Kumar Sinha, Director, BARC, Mumbai.
