The food trade has become one of the major components of Indian global trade and commerce in recent times. In fact, the Indian share of food trade has increased to 2.2 per cent of the global food trade in last three years. According to APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority), the Indian food processing industry is primarily export-oriented and India's exports of processed food stood at Rs 41,309.04 crore in 2012-13.

Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma has said he would endorse a draft trade reform at the World Trade Organization (WTO), removing a major obstacle to a deal. "It is a victory for the WTO and for the global community to have arrived at a mature decison," Sharma told reporters. "We are more than happy. It is a great day. It is a historic day." The first global trade reform since the creation of WTO was taken up for agreement by ministers from the body's 159 member countries.

India and Bahrain have said they are committed to further expanding bilateral ties and look forward to work together in new areas of trade, investment and cooperation. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, who is on a visit to that country, has met the Bahrain leadership and discussed both bilateral and regional issues. He also met the King and Prime Minister of Bahrain.

India and the UAE will sign an agreement next week that will ensure promotion and protection of bilateral investments, said the outgoing Ambassador of India to the UAE, MK Lokesh. Ambassador Lokesh made the announcement while speaking at the farewell lunch organised in his honour by Indian Business and Professional Council Dubai on Sunday. The Bilateral Investment Protection Agreement (BIPA) will provide a comprehensive framework to investors from both countries.
