A day after winning the vote to allow foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail in Parliament, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday made a strong pitch for FDI to Punjab’s farmers and ensured that the latest reform would introduce new technology and investment in marketing agricultural produce. Addressing the golden jubilee convocation of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here, the Prime Minister said, "It will introduce new technology and investment in marketing agricultural produce, hence India must take full advantage of it."

International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed will lead a delegation to India from today to promote more trade and private sector collaboration between Malaysia and India. The delegation, which is represented by officials from the ministry and other federal investment agencies, will visit Mumbai and Hyderabad. The visit precedes by a few days another visit to India by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak who will be in New Delhi on Dec 20 for the celebration to commemorate 20 years of India-Asean partnership.

President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday called for a second green revolution in agriculture that is more holistic and widespread. He was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of National Conference on 'Ushering Second Green Revolution in Indian Agriculture through Public-Private Partnership' organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.

Maharashtra is probably one among the few States that have a vibrant agriculture base, buoyant financial market and bustling industrial belts. The State grows both food and cash crops in two seasons — Kharif and Rabi. Maharashtra is a bio-diverse State with nine-agro climatic zones suitable to grow a variety of crops. The main food crops of Maharashtra are wheat, rice, jowar, bajra, pulses, mangoes, grapes, bananas and orange.
