Mango exports from India to the US are likely to touch a record level of about 500 tonnes this year, due to a strong demand and an expected sufficient supply of export quality fruit, according to the government body APEDA. However, inadquate irradiation centres for treating insect pest mango seed weevils and fruit fly from the fruits, is limiting large shipments from the country, it said. Last year India, the world's largest grower of the fruit, had shippped about 209 tonnes of mangoes to America.

India is reviewing some of the existing free trade agreements in an attempt to measure their impact on the country’s export-import status, according to Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry D. Purandeswari. “We have not set any timeframe to complete these reviews. The basic objective is to determine if there are any hurdles and what inputs need to be introduced for further trade growth,” she said at a seminar on export growth in Andhra Pradesh here today.

Bilateral trade between India and Iran is poised to cross $25 billion within four years, according to Hassan Nourian, the country’s Consul General in India. Addressing a gathering here, Hassan Nourian said, “Indo-Iran trade cooperation amounts to $15 billion. Both the Governments of Iran and India have come to a conclusion that in the next four years they want to take it to $25 billion. “We have already entered the second year. Currently, most of the exports from Iran to India are primarily based on oil and petroleum products.

With "substantial gap" yet to be bridged in the India-EU FTA, the meeting between their trade ministers will only be scheduled after concrete deliverables are achieved during the talks between the chief negotiators here on May 15. "It (the ministerial meeting in June) depends on the progress we make at the chief negotiator level. The minister level meeting will be finalised only after that meeting," a top official in the commerce ministry said.
