Commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma reiterated that the reform process in India was in full swing, and the government has taken several measures, which are yielding positive results, especially in the areas of recovery of the rupee and stock markets. He was speaking on the occasion of signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and World Economic Forum (WEF) to collaborate on the delivery of a strong engagement across multi-stakeholder groups in India.

Indian and Australian trade bodies have inked an agreement for acquainting the Indian diaspora with various trade and investment opportunities in India. The Australia-India Business Council (AIBC) signed an MoU with Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre (OIFC) to foster understanding between the two sides. According to the Business Wire website, the announcement was made yesterday in the backdrop of the OIFC Diaspora Engagement Meet held during Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Sydney.

India on Tuesday declared itself free from the highly contagious avian influenza or bird flu that may augur well for the country's poultry sector, promising boost to exports. It will help traders to tap overseas markets for poultry products as the outbreak of bird flu in certain parts of the country three months ago had led many countries to impose ban on imports of such consumable items from India. "India has declared itself free from notifiable Avian Influenza (H5N1), commonly called bird flu, and notified it to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE)," said an official statement of the department of animal husbandry under the agriculture ministry.

India and Japan today held talks on a range of issues with an aim to further enhancing their engagement in diverse sectors including trade and investment. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida met on the margins of the Asia-Europe Foreign Ministers' meeting here on the outskirts of Delhi and deliberated on various issues of mutual interest. The meeting focused on forthcoming visit of Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to India, sources said.
