India targets to produce 84 million tonnes of wheat in 2011-12

India has fixed a target of producing 84 million tonnes of foodgrain staple wheat during 2011-12, Parliament was informed today. The majority chunk of the targeted production is in the "wheat belt" of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, Minister of State for Agriculture Harish Rawat said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. India guar seed likely to edge higher on firm export demand

Guar continued hitting the Upper Circuit on rising export demand amidst reports of expected fall in production estimates. Imposition of 10% additional margin on the Buy side did not have any effect on the rising prices as overall Fundamentals remained Bullish. A strong Dollar vs Re supported the export factor even more. Government allows export of non-basmati rice to 3 African nations

The government has allowed the export of 10,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice to three African nations -- Kenya, Somalia and Djibouti -- through state-run Food Corporation of India (FCI) at economical rates. Basmati rice exports fetch lower prices

For the first time, India parboiled basmati is selling at a $250 discount per tonne to Pakistan as severe working capital crunch is compelling exporters to liquidate their stocks.
