High prices could trip basmati exports

A minimum export price (MEP) of $900 a tonne for basmati rice, considered high in the current global market, may spoil the party for Indian exporters. The exporters want the Government to either revise the MEP for basmati in line with prevailing global prices or abolish it completely and leave the pricing to market forces. Onions stay put as supply matches demand

Onion prices were stable this week in markets around growing areas on increased arrivals and constant demand. “Prices were stable as nearly 17,400 tonnes of onion arrived in various markets in Maharashtra in the last three days,” said Mr Rupesh Jaju, Director of United Pacific Agro Pvt Ltd that ships onions.
