India's rice exporters bullish over basmati rice

With the increased demand for the Indian basmati rice in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait and the UK, exporters have turned bullish on the prospects of the premium variety. Recently, India's Empowered Group of Ministers (EGOM) had slashed the Mininmum Export Price(MEP) of basmati to $700 from $900. The country expects to ship about 2.5 million tons of the basmati rice produced for 2011-12. Last year the exports was around 2.18 million .....

Onion export floor price cut to $125/t
17 Feb 2012
The Government has cut the minimum export price (MEP) of onion further to $125/tonne, but trade sources said the move will not be of much help as the current season is coming to an end. “The MEP of all varieties, excluding Bangalore Rose Onions and Krishnapuram Onion will be $125/tonne,” the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification late Wednesday. Bijapur grapes regain export glory

Former legislator and DCC Bank president Shivanand Patil has exported six tonnes of ‘Sharad,’ a seedless variety, this year. More than 3,500 farmers grow the fruit on 7,200 hectares in the district. Export quality variety used to be grown in 1,500 hectares. But several farmers stopped growing the export quality for lack of knowledge on post-harvest technology, processing, problems in transporting the produce and the risk of rejection, say .....
