Fiji Prime Minister Voreque Bainimarama said on Wednesday that his government has signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with India while 15 more agreements will be signed soon. The MoUs signed Wednesday, during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to this Pacific island nation, included the exchange of land for a new chancery building in New Delhi, diplomatic exchanges that would allow Fiji’s diplomats to train at the Indian government’s Foreign Service Institute, and project financing for an electricity co-generation plant funded through the Exim Bank of India.

Emphasising on the need to increase focus on regional integration, Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher today said the mega free trade deal - RCEP - would help India in boosting commerce and manufacturing. "My message here is that regional integration is extremely important and India must work towards it. It is India's time to take advantage of this... if you don't do that, we will lose the regional chain; and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a great opportunity for us," Kher said here at a CII function.

India’s economic growth is expected to accelerate to 5.4% in the year ending March 2015, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said on Wednesday. But returning to the 8% growth seen in the first decade of the 2000s will require sustained effort to expand manufacturing and upgrade infrastructure, the group said. The Paris-based club of advanced economies presented its latest forecasts for India on a market-price basis; most computations of India’s economic output are done on a factor-cost basis.

After ironing out its differences over farm subsidies with the US, India is ready to sign the much-awaited trade facilitation agreement (TFA) during the coming meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO)'s General Council (GC) meet next month. “We are ready to sign the TFA protocol, provided the GC takes a call on the resulting Bali package. Technically, it was only the US that was opposed to our demand. So, we hope there will be a positive movement on both these issues (TFA and farm subsidies) at that time,” a top official told Business Standard on condition of anonymity.
