Pointing out the directional shift in India's trade, President Pranab Mukherjee Sunday said new Asian powers have emerged as India's major partners now."There was a time when 80 percent of our export destination was Europe, America and other developing countries. That scenario is not available today. For the past two consecutive years, export to Europe has shrunk considerably," said Mukherjee.

The government Thursday approved the export of processed and/ or value added agricultural products even in the event of restriction/ ban on export of basic farm produce. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposal of the Department of Commerce for allowing the export of processed and/or value added agricultural products even in the event of restriction/ban on export of basic farm produce.

India will host foreign ministers of three important countries -- Australia, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan -- this week. During his meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid is expected to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in key areas of trade and investment and review of civil nuclear cooperation pact negotiations. Khurshid and Carr, who is here on a four-day visit, will hold talks on entire gamut of bilateral ties during the 8th India-Australia Framework Dialogue to be held tomorrow, officials said.

Bilateral trade between Malaysia and India is expected to breach US$15 billion this year, a fast-forward from its initial realisation, expected only to be in 2015.Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia Vijay K. Gokhale said the movement of goods and services between Kuala Lumpur and New Delhi is expected to be over RM13 billion last year. Even though the final figures are yet to be released, the envoy said continuous aggressive implementation of the Malaysia-India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) and the ever-growing domestic demand in India was the major driver of the trade growth.
