Emphasising on the need to strengthen economic ties in the Indo-Pacific region, India today said the proposed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement will be mutually beneficial to all the countries in the geography. India is currently negotiating a mega trade deal with the 16-member RCEP comprising 10 ASEAN members and six FTA partners namely India, China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

Ahead of the minister level meeting of the Trade Policy Forum (TPF) on Tuesday, senior commerce ministry officials of India and the US Monday discussed various trade related issues here. "We had frank exchange of views. We will continue to work together and see how we can work towards a common goal...(several) issues were brought up and discussed and we would like to see each other's perspective on those issues," Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher told reporters after the meeting.

In a significant change in the sentiment post Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Japan, the Japanese authority has expedited procedural obligations to step up mango import from India. Advancing the process, Japanese quarantine authorities have sought details of Vapor Heat Treatment (VHT) facilities across Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP and West Bengal (mango imports are permitted from these states) to appoint a supervisor for inspection.

Indian farmers should not be worried about increased agricultural produce from Germany and the European Union (EU) and there was significant space for the countries to collaborate in training and technology sharing, a German Food and Agriculture Ministry representative told BusinessLine on the sidelines of the 11th Agro-Tech summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
