India Wednesday asked the US to participate in the manufacturing and research and development (R&D) sectors of its economy. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma met US Trade Representative Michael Froman in the Brunei capital and reviewed ongoing negotiations in the World Trade Oorganisation in view of the coming Bali ministerial meet in December.

Faced with declining value of rupee and volatile exchange rate, India is exploring the possibility of bilateral trade with Iraq in domestic currencies, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said today. The issue of payment for trade in local currencies will be discussed during the bilateral meetings between visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamil Al-Maliki and Indian Ministers. "We are exploring possibilities (of payment in local currencies -- dinar and rupee) as we have substantial import ... We will definitely be discussing this issue," Sharma told reporters here.

Government is not considering any proposal to ban onion exports as the hike in price of the commodity is not because of outward shipments, Food Minister K V Thomas said Friday. "Currently there is no proposal under consideration to ban the export of onion. The present rise in onion prices is not linked to exports of onion as it constitutes less than 10 per cent of domestic production," he said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.

The ProFood, ProPack and Agbiz 2013 was inaugurated on 23rd August 2013 by Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development and Y. K. Sinha, High Commissioner of India at a function organized at BMICH, Colombo. India is participating in ‘ProFood ProPack 2013’ as a partner country. The number of Indian companies participating in the exhibition has grown over the years. This year, about 65 Indian companies are participating in the exhibition.
