Russian President Vladimir Putin made a one-day visit to India on Monday, during which the two countries signed a series of pacts on defense cooperation and reached consensus to develop economic and trade relations. Local opinions say that the leaders of the two countries have realized that the time-proved close relations between Delhi and Moscow must transform its one form which is centered around arms sale from Russia to India by developing economic and trade relations and seeking new stimulus for the promotion of India- Russia traditional partnership.

Backed by probability of Pakistan conferring the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status on India, and phasing out of the negative list, bilateral trade between the two nations is likely to grow three-fold from the existing US$ 2 billion level to US$ 6 billion over the next three years. according to Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) President Rafiquee Ahmad Speaking at a meeting of FIEO and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Lahore Mr. Ahmad said there is good opportunity in India for Pakistani entrepreneurs and they should exploit it.

As the global centre of economic growth moves to Asia, India has captured the attention of developed economies looking for new investment and trade opportunities, says a new report. Noting that recent growth in India has also emanated from a number of under-examined sectors other than information technology (IT) sector, it says, the Indian economy will need to continue to diversify in order to propel its development.

Vietnam and India will give new spirit to their traditional and strong ties next year, aiming to achieve seven-billion-dollar in trade in 2015. According to local media, Vietnamese and Indian Prime Ministers Nguyen Tan Dung and Manmohan Singh, respectively, will focus on implementing previously- signed accords in that direction. The media also reported on both prime ministers' agreements, reached during a meeting parallel to the India-Association of South-East Asian Nations held last week.
