Prime Minister Manmohan Singh outlined a five-point charter to strengthen BRICS - an association of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - and to keep it as the main driver of global economic growth post-2008 slowdown of the West. said the roadmap for the future “should focus on consolidating and deepening our existing cooperation”., Singh said the first challenge was to respond to the persisting weaknesses in the global economy by “harnessing the vast opportunities for expanding trade and investment ties” between the BRICS countries. The PM said BRICS countries must exploit their complementarities for mutual benefit.

After decades on the sidelines of international agricultural trade, India was poised last year to become a major food supplier, overtaking traditional exporters of food grain and meat. This could prove to be flash in the pan. The sudden rise and fall of India as food exporter is of its own making: populist calculation by the ruling coalition, sacrificing sustainable policy. India’s shining as a grain exporter could also signal general decline of the country’s agriculture industry, with falling aquifer levels and degradation of soil.

Pledging to take bilateral relations with India to the next level, Bosnia and Herzegovina today sought greater economic cooperation with India in form of larger investments in the manufacturing, energy and IT sectors. Speaking at the signing of an MoU between the CII and Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Foreign Minister of Bosnia Zlatko Lagumdzija said his country shares a very warm relations with India and pledge to take it to the next level.

Kazakhstan and India have "tremendous scope" for the bilateral economic cooperation between the two Nations, especially in nuclear energy and other natural resources such as oil and minerals with special focus on agriculture. Disclosing this here today, Doulat Kuanyshev, Kazakhstan Ambassador to India, said the potential for bilateral cooperation is enormous and the current state of this cooperation is well behind our capabilities and aspirations.
