Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday expressed confidence that the economy will return to the growth path of 8%. Inviting Japanese investments in the infrastructure sector, he told captains of the industry here that a target of $1 trillion has been set for the sector in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17), and hoped that Japanese businessmen will pick up a large share of these opportunities.

India and China have signed a series of agreements, including several MoUs on pharmaceuticals, meat and fisheries during the newly appointed Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's maiden visit to our country recently. These agreements carry a lot of significance for Indian exports as all these items are of immense trade importance to us. Our exporters enjoy price and quality competitiveness in these sectors, but they have to struggle with a number of regulatory hurdles while exporting these goods to China.

In the new Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), an important change has been made - notably, that the Served From India Scheme (SFIS) benefit will be allowed on Net Foreign Exchange (NFE) earned. The provision referred by you was introduced on 18.04.2013 and will be applicable for services exported during the current year. For exports made in the previous years, you can claim SFIS on the basis of foreign exchange earned.

Highlighting a host of avenues in trade and human resource sectors than India and Myanmar can avail smoothly through Manipur, chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh has appealed to Indian investors to make use of this opportunity. Addressing a historic 2-day "Region Investment and Business Conclave" at Monywa in Myanmar's Sagaing region as special guest of honor on Tuesday, Okram called upon Indian investors not to think for India alone but also Myanmar so that the two countries could co-exist.
