Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Sates President Barack Obama have pledged to continue the partnership and work closely in several areas, including security cooperation, bilateral trade and investment, energy and environment, and higher education, during their Friday's meet. The leaders gave out a joint statement after the meeting at the White House in Washington DC, highlighting the areas that need more cooporation to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

At the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York on Saturday, no progress was made on taking relations between the two countries forward. Both prime ministers agreed that continuing problems along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir had to be minimised before “earlier understandings” on a trade and economic relationship could be addressed.

Commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma will seek South Africa's support to expedite India's proposed preferential trade pact with nations in that region and press for market access for Indian mangoes, grapes and frozen boneless buffalo meat in a two-day visit starting Monday. There to attend the second India-Africa Trade Ministers' meet at Johannesburg, Sharma will also push for greater partnership between India and Africa in sectors like pharmaceuticals, IT and energy, a commerce department official said.

Speaking at the third Association of South-east Asian Nations (ASEAN)-India ministerial meeting on agriculture in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Saturday, India's agriculture and food processing industries minister Sharad Pawar invited members of the ASEAN to collaborate with India in farm research, so as to face common challenges such as climate change. He also offered to share India’s vast experience in agriculture with ASEAN nations.
