Mega Food Park proposed near Indore

Two more mega food parks in Madhya Pradesh besides Khargone are under consideration of the Union Ministry of Food Processing. One would likely to be set up near Indore while location of the other park is not yet clear. However, the existing mega food park at Khargone would be developed further.

This was announced by Neeraj Kumar Gayagi, Director, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, while talking to this correspondent on the sidelines of ‘ Mega Food Park Summit’ held here on Friday. Gayagi said that the proposal of two mega food parks in MP was under consideration of the Ministry. He did not disclose the location of parks but hinted that one of them would come up near Indore.  He did not say about the location of other park.

He further said that the first mega food park of MP in Khargone is not yet fully operational and it would be developed further by the agency concerned. It may be noted that the food parks are just like SEZs. These are meant to help agro processing units by providing all necessary amenities.

In the first session of summit, Gayagi shared his views on how to emphasize on agriculture sector in Madhya Pradesh. He said that Madhya Pradesh is a land of opportunities and this is the best place to invest in agriculture.

Giving emphasis on potential of land of MP RS Julania, Principal Secretary, Food Processing, Government of Madhya Pradesh, said: ‘ Enormous potential opportunities exist in Madhya Pradesh.’ ‘ Here, conditions favour for production of various crop and there are 5 crop zones, 11 agro climatic zones and 4 soil types. This makes the state a favorable for major agriculture and horticulture crops,’ he added.

Earlier the summit, organised jointly by PHD Chamber and Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries, was inaugurated by Gayagi, Julania, Regional Director of PHD Chamber RG Dwivedi and others at Hotel Fortune Landmark, on Friday morning. The summit was organized to give momentum to agricultural sector.

Dwivedi said that the summit was attended by Infrastructure companies, processing units, cold storage companies, ancillary units, logistics, marketing companies, investors, foreign investors, cold chain providers, food technologists, State and central govt officials and bankers.

Speakers from NABARD, officers of CG and UP Govt and representatives of various Mega Food Parks of the country like International Mega Food Park, Punjab, Patanjali Mega Food Park, Uttrakhand, Indus Mega Food Park, MP, Frick India and MP State Warehousing Corporation gave their presentations.
