Minister: Extend deadline for groundnut procurement
Jan 04, 2019

Co-operatives minister Udailal Anjana demanded the Centre to extend the time for groundnut procurement till the end of this month.
In a letter to union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh, minister said the procurement of ground nut began in the state from Oct 16 and to end on January 13 as per the earlier schedule. But due to the assembly elections and many public holidays during this period the procurement has drastically fallen short of target.

He said, as against the target of 3.79 lakh metric tonne, only 1. 39 lakh metric tonne of groundnut could be procured so far which is only 37% of the target. He said, apart from the election, Navratra, Ram Navmi, Diwali holidays, Eid and Gurunanak Jayanti holidays had adversely affected the procurement process.

Due to the assembly elections about 31 working days, procurement could not be carried out. He said out of about 1.33 lakh farmers registered online, only 91,181 could be allotted date for weighing. He informed that till January 3 this year, Rs 678.62 crore worth of groundnut have been procured from 60,145 farmers.
