Cabinet Clears India-Japan Pact for Cooperation in Food Processing Sector.

The Centre Wednesday approved an agreement between India and Japan for cooperation in the food processing sector.
 
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval to the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan in the field of food processing sector, an official statement said.

India to remain fastest-growing economy in 2019, 2020: UN report.

India will continue to remain the world's fastest-growing large economy in 2019 as well as in 2020, much ahead of China, a UN report said on Wednesday.
 
According to the UN's World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2019, India's GDP growth is expected to accelerate to 7.6 per cent in 2019-20 from an estimated 7.4 per cent in the current fiscal ending March 2019. The growth rate may come down to 7.4 per cent a year later.

Government plans to link 22000 mandis with e-NAM platform by 2022.

The government is planning to link 22,000 mandis across the country with the National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), an online trading platform for agricultural commodities by 2021-22, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh Wednesday said. 
 
Already 585 mandis have been linked with e-NAM and we are planning to link 22,000 mandis across the country by FY22, the minister said at a conference organised by Crop Care Federation of India.

Trade portal launched for easier business between India and Africa, to work as market intelligence platform for F&B sector.

A trade portal between India-Africa as market intelligence platform to facilitate the traders of both the region in food and beverages (F&B) trade has been launched by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED).
 
This platform will help in realising opportunities between India and Africa, which needs to be capitalized by requisite efforts and germane trade policies.

Horticulture output touches 306mn tonnes, overtakes field crop production: ICAR data.

India is growing more fruits and vegetables than field crops like paddy and wheat,indicating that more farmers are taking to horticulture, shows data compiled by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR). 
 
On the sidelines of the three-day National Horticulture Fair 2019, being held at Hesaraghatta on the city’s outskirts, Anand Kumar Singh, deputy director general (horticulture science), ICAR, said in September 2017, horticulture crop production in India touched 306 million tonnes, more than the field crop output of 285 million tonnes. This is for the first time that such a shift has been witnessed, he added.

Commerce ministry seeks stakeholders' views on report to revive SEZs.

The commerce ministry Tuesday said it has sought stakeholders' views on a report submitted by a panel to revive special economic zones (SEZs). A committee headed by Bharat ForgeNSE -0.95 % Chairman Baba Kalyani on promoting SEZs submitted its recommendations in November 2018. 
 
The panel, which was appointed by the commerce ministry, has suggested continuation of tax incentives and an array of other measures to revamp SEZs.

Vietnam, India seek to remove hurdles to bilateral trade.

NDO - Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry held a meeting on January 23 to discuss measures aimed at removing the obstacles facing trade and investment between the two countries.
 
The two sides also discussed directions and measures to bring the two economies closer together, thereby helping to expand the export markets of both countries and tap into each country’s strengths to meet the other’s needs.

Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Wednesday said the Budget will be dedicated to farmers in the country as part of the government efforts to double their income by 2022.
 
It was a matter of pride that due to the implementation of various farm schemes, India has become among the leading economies in the agriculture sector, he said at a conference organised by the Crop Care Federation of India (CCFI) here on 'Government, Industry and Farmer can work together to make farming more profitable'.

Health, trade on table as South African President Cyril Ramaphosa visits India.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to India as the state guest of honour at the Republic Day celebrations is expected to give fresh impetus to bilateral relations in areas as diverse as human resource development and defence.
 
Ramaphosa, who will be accompanied by nine ministers and a 50-member business delegation, will be making his first visit to India as head of state. He is the second South African president after late Nelson Mandela to be chief guest at the Republic Day parade.
