India budget: More measures to boost agri, food processing sector

In an attempt to boost India’s agriculture sector output, country’s finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said he will extend the benefit of investment linked deduction to businesses engaged in the production of fertilizers. Russia may extend ban on grain exports
01March 2011
Russia said it may extend a ban on grain exports that has been blamed for triggering global food price rises beyond its provisional expiry date of July 1. The Russian government's pointman on agriculture emerged from a closed-door cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin last week to announce that such an option had been discussed.

S.Africa halts livestock exports over foot-and-mouth
01March 2011
South Africa has suspended exports of all cattle, goats and sheep and their raw meat products due to a suspected foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, the agriculture minister said on Monday."The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has picked up some suspect positive serological results for foot-and-mouth disease.

Poultry Imports Decreasing in U.S
01March 2011
U.S. poultry exports to Russia, once its largest foreign market, will continue to slide as Russian producers boost output, said Thierry Murad, a regional product manager for AJC International, a food distribution company. The United States may export as much as 250,000 tons this year to Russia, where the government cut its import quota to 350,000 tons from 780,000, according to Murad.
