Commerce deptt. seeks more funds

Ministry targets 25% exports growth; aims to invest significantly in farm sector In a bid to improve states’ exports manufacturing infrastructure, the government proposes to invest in a big way. Commerce ministry has proposed doubling the plan funds to Rs 3351.59 crore during next financial year. This is against Rs 1,680 crore set aside in 2010-11.

Vegetable parks to come up in several cities: Sharad Pawar

Vegetable parks will be set up in all Indian cities with a minimum population of one million to ensure availability of quality produce at reasonable rates, agriculture minister Sharad Pawar announced in Kanpur on Saturday. “We propose to shortly start the process of acquiring land for the purpose and would urge all state governments to extend their cooperation,” he said inaugurating a seminar at the Indian Institute of Pulses Research in Kanpur.

Ethiopia invites Indians for pulses farming

After Latin American countries like Argentina and Uruguay, Ethiopia on Tuesday invited Indian farmers for taking up commercial farming of pulses in African nation. Ethiopian minister of Agriculture Tafera Derbew said that Indian farmers can avail the opportunity of vast farming land set aside by African country for commercial farming and grow pulses and edible oil crops for export back to India.

Romania to import about 500,000 tonnes wheat to supply home consumption, official says

Romania is facing no problem till the new wheat crop, even if it has to import between 400,000 and 500,000 tonnes wheat, this year, to secure its home consumption, Agriculture Ministry State Secretary Adrian Radulescu says.
