Panel set up to hike fruit, vegetable production in UP

In a bid to boost the food processing sector in Uttar Pradesh, directorate of horticulture, on Thursday, set up a 14-member consultation committee to offer advice on ways to develop fruit and vegetable production in the state. The 14-member panel, which will meet for consultation purposes at least two times in a year, will comprise Prof RB Singh, former director, Indian Council of Agriculture Research, a nominated official representing Agricultural and Processed Foods Products Export Development Authority(APEDA)and a nominated person from the union Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

Rice exporters demand export lift from north varieties of rice

Rice exporters today demanded that the government allow exports of premium varieties of non-basmati rice grown in north such as ''Sugandha'' and ''Sharbati'' on the lines of the decision taken with regard to South Indian varieties yesterday.

There is an acute shortage of locally-produced flowers to meet the rising de¬¬mand for Valentine’s Day, said suppliers. For instance, local farmers have difficulty planting roses, a popular flower for the romantics. “Roses are not highly in demand during normal periods.

Agriculture Ministry working towards cluster-based farming

Nabard on board for the plan to be introduced in rain-fed, hilly areas. Concerned over low agricultural growth rate and low levels of farm income, the Union agricultural ministry is working towards a plan to introduce cluster-based farming in the country.
