ICARDA Strengthens India’s Pulse Research with Inauguration of Food Legume Research Facilities. ICARDA inaugurated the newly developed facilities of its Food Legume Research Platform (FLRP) in Amlaha, near Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, reinforcing India’s leadership in pulse research and its long-standing partnership with international agricultural science to advance climate-resilient and nutrition-secure farming systems. The inauguration was held in the presence of Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India; Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; and Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Uttar Pradesh's indigenous mango varieties are seeing growing interest in both domestic and export channels, as buyers look beyond the traditional coastal Alphonso mango. Ishant Saini of Amroha‑based Aamiya Farm Fresh says the state's mango basket is well-positioned to compete on quality, price, and volume. 'Uttar Pradesh has many varieties, but the main ones are Langda, Chausa, and Dussehri. India's mango exporters fret as Iran war triggers shortage of refrigerated containers, increases costs. A shortage of refrigerated containers (reefers) caused by the West Asia war is worrying Indian growers of mangoes ahead of the peak export season, according to five people aware of the development. With the war in its second month, key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, have been disrupted, leading to container shortages and higher freight costs. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Food Processing Industry, launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, is a major initiative aimed at strengthening India’s food processing sector, promoting Indian brands in global markets, and creating global food manufacturing champions. The scheme is being implemented for a period of six years from FY 2021–22 to FY 2026–27 with a total financial outlay of ₹10,900 crore. The scheme focuses on increasing value addition in the food processing sector, expanding processing capacity, and generating employment, particularly in rural areas and off-farm sectors. New multi-dimensional income opportunities for farmers at three-day ‘Krishi Mahakumbh’ in Raisen. A three-day ‘Krishi Mahakumbh’ will be held in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, focusing not only on crops but also on dairy, poultry, fisheries, goat rearing, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs)-based marketing and livelihood opportunities for rural women, with the aim of creating multiple strong pillars of income for farmers.
