Rice is the staple food of more than half of the world population, with more than 700 million metric ton produced annually at a global level. Rice is the second-most important cereal crop after maize in the world.

India is the second largest producer of Rice, producing more than 22% of the global production at 110 million tonnes per year. The main mango producing states in India are West Bengal (13.3%), Punjab (11.9%), Uttar Pradesh (11.8%), Bihar (8.79%), Andhra Pradesh (7.2%) and Bihar (7.0%).
