Trade between India and Mozambique could double to $3 billion by 2016 from the current level of $1.28 billion. This was stated by Commerce Minister Anand Sharma during his meeting with Mozambique's Industry and Trade Minister Armando Inroga in the Mozambique capital Maputo, a commerce ministry release here said Monday. Sharma was on a two-day visit to that country September 27-28 during which he also met Prime Minister Alberto Vaquina of Mozambique, the release said.

India has for long been caught in the diplomatic crossfire between the United States and Iran, so today’s meeting between US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, is being keenly watched for signs of a potential thaw between the two adversaries. This is one of the highest level diplomatic initiatives between Iran and the US in a 34 year standoff that began after the revolution of 1979.

"There is a need to review the FTAs with other nations as a measure to assess their impact on our own country's trade. The basic objective would be to analyze if there are any hurdles faced by the exporters and determine the inputs required to further the growth of trade," Minister of State for Commerce and Industry D Purandeswari said. She said this while speaking at an award function for EOUs (export- oriented units) and SEZs (special economic zone) units organized by the Export Promotion Council.

India and China today agreed that peace and tranquility on the border are key for expansion of bilateral ties as their senior officials held candid talks on a border security mechanism agreement expected to be inked during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's proposed visit here. The fourth meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs concluded on a positive note here, during which officials discussed the proposed Border Defence Cooperation Agreement (BDCA), aimed at more comprehensively dealing with tensions related to patrolling by both sides along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
