Connoisseurs usually do not associate wine with India, but one of the major attractions at the 'Flavours of India' event here is a stall showcasing Indian wine alongside other better known products such as spices, tea and coffee. Some Indian wine brands are offered for sale at well known superstores in Britain such as Waitrose, and indications are that the Indian wine exports are likely to grow to nearly Rs 100 crore by 2015.

The inauguration of the integrated check post (ICP) at the Attari border, Amritsar (Punjab), to facilitate trade between India and Pakistan on April 13, 2012 has started showing outstanding results. In the first quarter of the current financial year, imports grew by 106 per cent while exports witnessed an increase of 39 per cent over the corresponding period last year.

Exporters' body Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) on Wednesday reiterated that exports should improve by the month of October. ". . . global situation is slowly improving and we expect exports to be at a take off stage by October," said FIEO president M Rafeeque Ahmed in a press statement.

Located on the state highway linking Imphal to Dimapur in Nagaland, Hengbung is a nondescript, sleepy village in Senapati district of Manipur. A steep upward turn off the highway, almost hidden by thick woods, takes you to a cluster of pale apricot buildings here. A peep inside throws up a visual treat, with several varieties of exotic orchids creating a riot of colours.
