India's wine exports are expected to quadruple to Rs 100 crore by 2015 on the back of increasing production, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma on Monday said. "We have a bright future for wine industry in India. Within 10 years, it will grow ten fold including exports. Exports may touch Rs 100 crore annually by 2015," Sharma said here at an Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) function.

The export of agricultural items monitored by APEDA, the government-run export promotion body for farm products, rose by 88% to about Rs 82,000 crore in the last fiscal, a top official said. The growth was achieved on the back of increased export of processed foods, basmati, non-basmati rice, guar (gum and seed), buffalo meat and groundnut.

India has become the first country in the world to introduce national standards for organic textiles. This follows the Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister, Mr Anand Sharma, on Monday launching the “Indian Standards for Organic Textiles” (ISOT). The standards will be introduced in the National Standards for Organic Production (NPOP) and will be administered by the Commerce and Industry Ministry as part of the Foreign Trade Policy, an official statement said.

Exports from special economic zones (SEZs) grew by 64 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1.18 lakh crore during the April-June period, Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs (EPCES) said today. "In-spite of prevailing recession around globe, SEZ sector has shown fabulous growth," the council said in a statement today. Out of 588 approved SEZs, or export hubs, 386 are notified and only 158 are operational.
