India to be country of the year at BioFach 2012; India event from Nov 10-12

"India would be the country of the year at BioFach 2012 (international event)," said Dr Sanjay Dave, director, Agricultural and Processed Foods Export Development Authority (APEDA), at a press conference held here on Thursday. BioFach 2012, the international trade fair for organic products, is to be held from February 15-18, 2012.

Grape exports to EU declines by 50% in 2010-11

Grape exports to the European Union declined by 50% in 2010-11 as compared to the previous year. The EU had banned grape exports from India in the previous year due to pesticide issue. "The super markets in Europe, except UK, did not promote Indian grapes this year.

Mexico: Manila mango suffers from drought and damages the industry

Due to a drought in the fields of the region, the Manila mango production, coming from Veracruz, did not have good size or consistency, so it got a low price, meaning it can't compete with products coming from the South of the country. Ramón Gómez Narváez, secretary general for the Unión de Comerciantes of the March 18th market, pointed that due to its consistency.

Karnataka govt expects Rs 50,000 crore investments from agri, horti meet

Karnataka government is targeting Rs 50,000 crore of investment from the soon likely to be held Global Agriculture and Horticulture Investors Meet 2011. The dates of the event are yet to be finalised. State chief minister B S Yeddyurappa stated that to keep the agricultural growth of state at over 6 per cent and create opportunities in rural areas, the state was looking at fresh investments.
