Commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma today expressed hope that India's exports will rebound by October as steps taken by EU and the US are likely to yield results. India's exports in July contracted 14.8 per cent, the steepest fall in three years, to USD 22.4 billion, mainly due to the demand slowdown in the US and Europe. Stating that July figures were of concern to the government, Sharma said: "We were expecting a downturn but not that drop.

A joint feasibility study on a proposed economic cooperation agreement between Taiwan and India is expected to be completed soon, a visiting Indian trade official said Monday. Saurabh Chandra, secretary of India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, said the study is ongoing and that the results should be ready "in the next couple of months."

India's state-run trading company PEC Ltd has received 10 bids for its global wheat export tender, with Thailand-based Phoenix Commodities emerging as the highest bidder at $313.50 per tonne, trade sources said on Monday. Bidders included the Indian arms of global trading companies such as Glencore, Cargill and Louis Dreyfus, the source added.

The Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) is planning to conduct a "Trade Expo" in Pakistan later this year. The expo is aimed at boosting the bilateral relationships between the two countries, FIEO President M Rafeeque Ahmed said on Monday. "FIEO would be taking a business delegation to Pakistan and would organise three-day Trade Expo at Karachi from November 16", Ahmed said in a statement.
