India to lose EU preferential benefits

Likely to be dropped from GSP access, though FTA under final negotiation would fully compensateAfter nearly 40 years of preferential access to European markets, many of the world’s developing economies are set to lose these benefits.The European Union’s (EU’s) Trade Commissioner, Karel De Gucht, has announced plans to slash the number of countries, from 176 to 80, that benefit from the generalised system of preferences (GSP) scheme, whereby eligible nations enjoy reduced or zero Customs tariffs on imported goods.

US: Proposed rule to increase fresh mango assessment published by USDA

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has published a proposed rule and is requesting comments for a proposed increase in the assessment rate on fresh mangos. The proposal is to increase the assessment rate by ¼ cent per pound (from ½ cent per pound to ¾ cent per pound).

Govt likely to hike paddy MSP by Rs. 160 to Rs. 1,160/qtl

The government is likely to increase the support price for paddy soon by Rs. 160 to Rs. 1,160 per quintal for the 2011-12 crop year as it wants to encourage farmers to produce more to meet higher demand under the proposed National Food Security Act.
