An interactive discussion on Czech-India business relations was held at the Indian Merchant Chambers (IMC), Mumbai, recently. As part of the event, a delegation of members from 14 companies showcased products and technologies that they were associated with in the food processing and agriculture industries. Representing his country, Radek Braum, deputy minister of agriculture and forest management, Czech Republic, addressed the session.

Bilateral trade between India and Burma is expected to more than double by 2015, the Burmese consul general told the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kolata this week. Consul general Kyaw Swe Tint said trade is likely to grow from US$ 1.28 billion in 2010-11 to $3 billion 2014-15. Agriculture, health, education, mineral resources and pharmaceuticals are expected to be key trade sectors between the two nations.

Iran will soon resolve the quality issue related to Indian wheat and may initially import two lakh tonnes of the grain during the December-January period, the Food Minister, K V Thomas said today. ” Our officials have just returned from Tehran. They were informed that the issue of Karnal Bunt, a fungal disease, will be resolved soon. It is their internal problem and they will sort it out soon,” the Minister said.

In a sweetener for the sugar industry, the C. Rangarajan committee has recommended complete decontrol of sugar, saying mills should be allowed to sell their output in the open market. In its report submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office today, the panel said the government should allow only a modest level of import and export tariffs on sugar. Most state governments have welcomed the solution.
