Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said on Thursday that the government will continue with the free export policy for rice, wheat and cotton this year. In September 2011, the ban on export of non-basmati rice and wheat was lifted and exports were put on OGL (Open General Licence) due to bumper food grains production in the country. “Due to higher production, the government has allowed export of rice, wheat and cotton.

The Government’s policy on export of agriculture produce depends upon various factors including stocks of agriculture products available in the country, surplus over and above the buffer stock norm and strategic reserve requirements, if any, the concerns of food security, availability of agriculture products to common man at reasonable prices and remunerative returns to the grower and price competitiveness in the international market etc.

The US ambassador to India, Nancy J Powell, on Thursday said the northeast should also become a part of the increasing bilateral trade between USA and India. Powell is in the city to inaugurate the American Business Centre (ABC) in the city. "The opening of the American Business Centre here is in recognition of the growing trade relations between India and USA. We want all parts of India, including the northeast, to be apart of this growing trade relation," Powell said at the inauguration programme.

India has topped the list of major trading partners of Dubai, with its total trade exchange valued at USD 34.5 billion during the first 10 months of 2012. India is followed by China with trade worth USD 25.5 billion. The US, Switzerland, and Turkey are also in the list of top five trading partners, according to data released by the Administration of Strategy and Corporate Excellence at Dubai Customs.
