The Cabinet is expected to give its approval to two agreements with Pakistan with a view to boost trade and economic engagement between the two countries. These agreements relates to customs cooperation and redressal of trade-related grievances. These pacts are aimed at streamlining trade between the countries. They seek to remove irritants that have prevented bilateral trade from realising its potential.

Onion exporters may get to export without routing it through agencies, in a move being considered by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). At present, consignments are regulated by canalysing agents or state trading agencies. This is even when exports are under the open general license (OGL) and the government has removed any cap on the export price.

The ministry of food processing industries (MOFPI) has entered into agreements with certain developed countries such as Germany and France for bilateral co-operation in the field of food processing. This includes processed food segments such as fruits and vegetables, as per information provided by the minister of state for food processing industry, Charan Das Mahant.

India and mineral-rich Burundi will discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in several areas, including agriculture, livestock, energy and mines, during the first state visit by Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza from September 17. Apart from being accompanied by his spouse Denise Bucumi Nkurunziza, the President will have Ministers of External Relations and International Cooperation, Agriculture and Livestock, Energy and Mines, Commerce and Industries and senior government officials in his delegation.
