In a move to help promote trade and bilateral ties with Pakistan, the government is set to slash 30% items or 254 products from the sensitive list under the South Asian Free Trade Agreement (Safta) with the Cabinet set to consider the proposal on Friday. As part of pruning the list for non-least developed countries, which includes Sri Lanka, India plans to reduce peak customs duty on these products to 5% over three years.

The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Mr. Rajinder Bhagat has revealed that trade turnover between Ghana and India increased from US$ 537.53 million in 20010 to US$ 818.10 million in 2011. This, he said, depicted an increase of 52% over the preceding year, with India's exports to Ghana at US$ 658.35 million, as against an import figure of US$ 159.75 million.

India and China are set to discuss trade-related issues during a crucial meeting of a joint economic group headed by their Commerce Ministers in New Delhi on August 27, against the backdrop of a five percent slump in bilateral commerce that negated last year's high trajectory. Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming would arrive in New Delhi on a two-day visit on August 26 to hold a comprehensive ninth round of talks with his Indian counterpart Anand Sharma next day under the joint economic group (JEG).

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird will visit India next month to strengthen bilateral economic ties between the two countries. During the visit, Baird will review the current status of bilateral negotiations underway, such as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the implementation of the Nuclear Cooperation Agreement.
