India should explore the Public-Private-Parternship (PPP) model on a large scale in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17) to sustain momentum of higher foodgrain production in the coming years, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said today. He also said higher investment in agriculture and allied sectors was necessary to achieve food security and improve farm incomes. Besides, APMC Acts need to be amended to encourage setting up of private markets and contract farming.

The first meeting of Indian Grape Processing Board (IGPB) with the government departments to discuss wine legislation is scheduled on Friday in Pune. The meeting, which is to be held at the head office of the IGPB in Pune, will be attended by the representatives of from Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), National Research Centre for Grapes ( NRC), Pune, excise, agriculture departments and the ministry of food processing industries, agricultural processed food products export development authority and All-India Wine Producers' Association (AIWPA).

Agricultural and allied products, chemicals and related products have posted strong growth in exports during the first seven months of the current fiscal piping traditional goods, including engineering, petroleum products and gems and jewellery, according to the data collected by the Director General of Commercial Statistics and Intelligence.According to foreign trade performance analysis, agricultural and allied products, which had a share of 11.43 per cent in the total export basket.

The annual Russia-India summit serves to keep up the momentum in Indo-Russian bilateral relations for the opportunity it provides for a review of bilateral ties at the end of each year. The Russian president and the Indian prime minister have travelled to each other’s capital every alternate year for the annual summits since 2001. Russian president Vladimir Putin made his first trip to India in five years for the 13th India-Russia annual summit.
