India on Friday exuded confidence of achieving the $100-billion bilateral trade target set with China by 2015 and hoped the issue of New Delhi's widening trade deficit with Beijing will be addressed."The target of $100-billion bilateral trade would not be difficult to achieve by 2015," Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Asit Tripathy said. He said both nations should strive to attain a sustainable balanced trade, which is currently in favour of China.

India has the emerged as the world's largest rice exporter in 2012 beating its Asian counterpart Thailand with shipment of 9.75 million tonnes, according to United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) latest report. Thailand was the top rice exporter with exports of 10.65 million tonnes in 2011. However, its volume slipped to 6.5 million tonnes in 2012.

An Iranian delegation is in on a week-long visit to finalise wheat imports after resolving quality issues with India, which has surplus stocks after record production Iran has not been importing wheat from India since 1996 due to presence of a fungal disease called 'karnal bunt' in the grain. However, two nations are in talks for last couple of months to sort out the quality issues.

With the premiers of two countries - Canada and Australia - slated to be in Punjab in the first week of November, the state government is making elaborate arrangements to make their stay a memorable one. Given the importance of the two personalities visiting the state, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has cancelled his official trip to Bologna in Italy, where he was to lead a delegation of eminent farm equipment manufacturers and farmers at the 'International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition-2012' from November 7 to 11.
