India's organic textile exports are expected to rise by 50% to about Rs 1,500 crore in 2012-13 with the introduction of a new national certification standard, according to Agricultural and Processed Foods Export Development Authority. During 2011-12, these exports were Rs 1,027 crore, according to the data provided by the APEDA.

The Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Textiles, Shri Anand Sharma in a bilateral meeting with Mr. William Hague, British Foreign Secretary in London today, invited British participation in at least one National Manufacturing and Investment Zone (NMIZ) as partner. British Foreign Secretary Mr. William Hague responded positively to it and asked his Office to examine the opportunities for NMIZ in the United Kingdom.

India has overtaken China in exports growth rate recording an increase of 16.1 per cent in 2011, topping the list of all major trading countries in the world, says a WTO report. "India had the fastest export growth among major traders in 2011, with shipments rising 16.1 per cent. Meanwhile, China had the second-fastest export growth of any major economy at 9.3 per cent," World Trade Report 2012 of WTO said.

India Show, an exposition of Indian business in Colombo to be held from August 03 has drawn over 100 exhibitors which will give a chance for the two countries to boost trade and investment as well as influence policy, officials said. "We hope this will be a platform to build partnerships which will promote investments with a view to intensify our economic engagement," India's deputy high commissioner P Kumaran said.
