As part of its short-term strategy, commerce ministry has identified 11 big markets (countries) where India's share of imports was less than one per cent. The idea is to increase this to 1.5 per cent and fetch an additional $75billion exports from India in the near future. Having decided on this strategy to boost exports, commerce ministry officials and secretary SR Rao have embarked on a nationwide tour last week to meet heads of exports promotion councils and their members and insist that they push exports to these identified markets.

India's state-run PEC Ltd. will issue a fresh tender Thursday to export 60,000 metric tons of wheat from government stocks, signaling that the country won't curb exports even though this year's foodgrain output may fall because of the poor monsoon. Exports of wheat against the tender will be allowed from the eastern port of Krishnapatnam, senior government officials said. "We have adequate foodgrain stocks.

Pakistan and India could immensely benefit if both the countries work towards working out a joint marketing strategy aimed at exporting mangoes abroad. If both the countries’ mango seasons, which cover different months, are combined they could span 8-9 months for US market whose import share in mangoes is 42 percent in the world.

Indian sugar futures rose on Tuesday on good export demand and on concerns poor rainfall in key cane-growing areas could trim next year's output. The key August contract on India's National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange was up 1.36 percent at 3,359 rupees ($60) per 100 kg at 1012 GMT. It hit a contract high of 3,395 rupees in the previous session.
