Malaysia Wants Safe, Quality Food Imports From India – Liow
07March 2011
Malaysia, a large importer of food items from India, is initiating a new agreement with the Indian Government to monitor the quality and safety of imports coming from the sub-continent. The country imports about 80 per cent of beef (buffalo meat) from India and millions ringgit worth of spices, onions, fresh fruits and basmati rice.

The threat of rising food prices

International food prices surged to record high levels in February after eight consecutive months of increases. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization data showed the index of a basket of food commodities at their highest-level of 236 points since the agency began tracking food prices 20 years ago.

Indonesia to supply 30 pct of Singapore's vegetable needs
07March 2011
Indonesian Farming Minister Suswono said on Wednesday that the government has set a target to supply 30 percent of Singapore vegetable needs. "This is our target until 2014," the minister said in his visit in a farming plantation located Tanah Karo regency, North Sumatra province.
