India’s next agricultural revolution will be powered by artificial intelligence, Union Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh said on Sunday, positioning AI as the central pillar of future farm policy, research and investment. Addressing the inaugural session of the AI4Agri 2026 Summit in Mumbai, the Minister said AI has, for the first time, the ability to provide scalable solutions to long-standing structural challenges in agriculture, including erratic weather, information gaps and fragmented markets.

'India’s mango season looks set for a strong showing this year'.
The Indian mango season shows signs of strong volumes for this year, says Kartik Sakhiya, founder of Akshar Agri Exports based in Gujarat, India, expecting the season to begin mid-March with early Alphonso mangoes from Maharashtra. 'Supply would remain controlled alongside gradual harvesting and weather suitability in March. Export volumes usually pick up from around April 9–10th, once temperatures stabilize and fruit maturity hits.'

New Zealand and India hold first meeting on horticultural cooperation.
India and New Zealand held the first meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on horticultural cooperation in India on 19 February, marking a significant step forward under the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed between the two countries on 12 March 2025. The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Priya Ranjan, joint secretary (horticulture) for India’s Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and New Zealand’s Steve Ainsworth, divisional manager bilateral relations and trade, who joined the meeting virtually.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan held an important virtual meeting on Tuesday with Agriculture Ministers and senior officials of various states and undertook a detailed review of the progress of the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and Krishi Unnati schemes. During the meeting, the Union Minister clearly stated that while the Central Government is providing strong price support to farmers through large-scale procurement of gram, mustard and lentil under Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM - AASHA) during the Rabi 2026 season, it is equally essential that every rupee of funds provided to the States is spent in a timely, efficient and farmer-centric manner.

MoU signed to strengthen food safety, compliance in India–EU spice trade.
The All India Spices Exporters Forum (AISEF) and the European Spice Association (ESA) have signed an MoU to strengthen food-safety compliance, sustainability standards and regulatory alignment in the India–EU spice trade. The agreement was signed at the International Spice Conference (ISC 2026) in Kochi by AISEF Chairman Emmanuel Nambusseril and ESA Chairman Benoit Winstel.
