Nationwide pulses revolution launched from Amlaha to make India self-reliant in pulses. The Government of India recently launched a nationwide 'Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission' from the Food Legumes Research Centre (FLRP) in Amlaha, Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh. The event was chaired by Union Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, bringing together Union and state agriculture ministers, scientists, progressive farmers, farmer producer organisations, seed companies, and pulse mill representatives to chart a new roadmap for pulses self-reliance in India. Mango Cultivation The mango cultivation in the entire country is not affected by the problem of biennial (alternate) bearing. It is found in patches of North India and has less impact in South India. Scientific studies on biennial bearing in mango, including its causes and regional impacts, have been conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutes like ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru and ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow.The studies indicate that varieties such as Dashehari, Langra,Chausa, Fazli and Alphonso are predominantly biennial bearing in habit. The main causes of the biennial bearing is attributed to, inherited physiological trait influenced by genetic factors, nitrogen and carbon reserves, hormonal control of flower formation, climatological factors, cultural practices and crop load. Smart Agri-food systems and sustainable production practices. Government has identified key agronomic priorities including climate-resilient, carbon-neutral and regenerative agriculture to address the challenges of climate change, resource degradation and sustainable food security. Several schemes have been initiated under National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, to promote sustainable agriculture practices. Per Drop More Crop scheme increases water use efficiency at the farm level through micro irrigation technologies i.e. drip and sprinkler irrigation. Rainfed Area Development focuses on Integrated Farming System for enhancing productivity and minimizing risks associated with climatic variability. The Soil Health & Fertility scheme promotes integrated nutrient management through judicious use of chemical fertilizers. Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, Agroforestry & National Bamboo Mission also promote climate resilience. Pradhan Mantri Fasa Bima Yojana along with weather index based Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme provides a comprehensive insurance cover against crop failure to farmers suffering crop loss/damage due to natural calamities. Re-structuring of National Horticulture Mission. Government of India launched National Horticulture Mission (NHM) in 2004-05 with the aim for the holistic development of horticulture sector in the country. The said scheme was re-structured and subsumed under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme in 2014-15 covering broader spectrum of horticulture sector and the MIDH scheme was re-structured in 2025 with revised Operational Guidelines implementing MIDH scheme throughout the country which included all districts of the country, enhancing cost norms of various interventions, incorporating high value, exotic and medicinal crops and promoting latest and innovative technologies being used in horticulture sector. India may allow US pulses like ‘masur’ at zero duty. India may allow limited quantity of lentil (masur) import at zero duty from the US against 10 per cent now, highly placed sources said.
