Secretary (DARE) & DG, ICAR reviews ongoing research and development initiatives at ICAR-IIWBR, Karnal.
In a significant step towards advancing Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is spearheading transformative research in conservation agriculture and climate-resilient wheat and barley systems to strengthen national food security, fuel self-reliance, climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods. Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, ICAR, today visited the ICAR–Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR) and ICAR–Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), Karnal, to review ongoing research and development initiatives. A media team from Delhi also accompanied the visit.

Sugar Prices Retreat on a Possible Increase in India's Sugar Exports.
Sugar prices tumbled to 2.5-week lows on Tuesday and settled sharply lower after India ruled out a ban on its sugar exports, which could boost global supplies. On Tuesday, India's Food Secretary said that the government has no plans to ban sugar exports this year, easing concerns that it could divert more sugar to make ethanol after the Iran war disrupted crude oil supplies.

India gains market access to Canada for certain fresh produce items.
India can now export fresh mangoes, pomegranates (including arils), oranges, and garlic to Canada, according to a formal notice from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda). The approval follows confirmation from the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of Canada and requires compliance with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) import standards.

DoCA calls for better onion storage amid export slump.
The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) on Tuesday appealed to the onion exporters to strengthen storage infrastructure to cope with the situation arising out of high onion production and to help stabilise prices in the domestic market. The appeal was made by DoCA secretary Nidhi Khare during an online meeting with members of various onion exporter associations to review the current production, export scenario and price trends.

ICARDA Strengthens India’s Pulse Research with Inauguration of Food Legume Research Facilities.
ICARDA inaugurated the newly developed facilities of its Food Legume Research Platform (FLRP) in Amlaha, near Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, reinforcing India’s leadership in pulse research and its long-standing partnership with international agricultural science to advance climate-resilient and nutrition-secure farming systems. The inauguration was held in the presence of Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India; Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; and Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). They were joined by Mr. Aly Abousabaa, Director General of ICARDA, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, state governments, research institutions, development partners, scientists, and farmers.

Uttar Pradesh's indigenous mango varieties are seeing growing interest in both domestic and export channels, as buyers look beyond the traditional coastal Alphonso mango. Ishant Saini of Amroha‑based Aamiya Farm Fresh says the state's mango basket is well-positioned to compete on quality, price, and volume. 'Uttar Pradesh has many varieties, but the main ones are Langda, Chausa, and Dussehri. While Alphonso remains the flagship export variety from coastal India, Uttar Pradesh's advantage lies in volume, quality, and price.'

A shortage of refrigerated containers (reefers) caused by the West Asia war is worrying Indian growers of mangoes ahead of the peak export season, according to five people aware of the development. With the war in its second month, key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, have been disrupted, leading to container shortages and higher freight costs. Many containers are stuck in transit due to congestion or are being re-routed, leading to longer shipment cycles.
