India’s rice procurement up 5% in Oct-Feb 2024-25. Rice procurement across the country has reached 45.84 million tonnes (mt) as of February 28, after the 2024-25 marketing season began on October 1. This is 5 per cent higher from 43.84 mt a year ago. However, considering that the kharif season’s rice production has been estimated at record 119.93 mt this year, the current procurement has already crossed 38 per cent of output and more purchases may not be desirable for the government, experts said. UAE-India trade reaches US$65 billion in 2024 with 20.5% growth. Decentralised jaggery processing unit gives hope to farmers in Kerala's Kanthalloor. Despite the popular Marayur jaggery fetching Geographical Indication tag, the producers of the product have not been getting much benefits. One of the impeding factors in the produce not having the demand it deserves is the lack of a decentralised processing unit to produce export-quality jaggery.
