India has trade surplus with 151 nations; deficit with 75 during Jan-June 2024, says GTRI. India has recorded trade surplus with as many as 151 countries such as the US and Netherlands, while the country has a trade deficit with 75 nations including China and Russia during the first half of this year, according to think tank GTRI. The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said that India does not need to worry about the trade deficit from importing crude oil and coal, however, it must focus on reducing the industrial goods imports, especially from countries like China, as these threaten India's economic sovereignty. Telangana: Subsidies for T ryots for expanding fruit acreage. The Telangana horticulture department is considering a novel approach to enhance fruit production by linking it to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). This initiative aims to encourage farmers to produce fruits 50 acres in each mandal across the state. Bangladesh: Withdraw import duty on onion, potato and eggs: Commerce to NBR. In a letter to the revenue board, the ministry recently wrote that the prices of potatoes and onions in Dhaka's markets have remained high for several months. 'We have asked the NBR to reduce the duties imposed on the three goods. They are working to this end. Centre redesigns Agricultural Infrastructure Fund to cover FPOs. The Union Cabinet, on Wednesday (August 28, 2024), expanded the scope of the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund (AIF). The scheme, worth Rs.1 lakh crore, would be redesigned to include financial support for Farmers’ Producers Organisations (FPOs) to enhance their financial security and creditworthiness.
