Basmati exporters may gain from low paddy prices this year. Farmers are selling Basmati (paddy) at an average Rs.2,200-2,500/quintal with over 15 per cent moisture level this year in Uttar Pradesh. This is causing distress as last year they fetched over Rs.3,000/quintal. Uttar Pradesh usually gets Basmati crop first among all the growing States since Pusa Basmati 1509 is comparatively a short duration variety and is transplanted earlier than in Punjab and Haryana. Financial assistance to organic farmers. The Government of India is encouraging the Balanced use of fertilizer in conjunction with the Organic and Biofertiliser on soil test based recommendation. Government is implementing the scheme titled 'PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM)' to incentivize States and Union Territories to promote the use of alternative fertilizers such as organic and bio-fertilizers for improving soil health and fertility and sustainable productivity, Under the programme, state Governments will be incentivized to the tune of 50% of fertilizer subsidy saved for promotion of organic and natural farming and organic fertilizers.
