Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the 'Make in India' initiative can add to engines of global growth and help democratise the global economy, and highlighted the importance of creating multiple, reliable and resilient supply chains. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Astana to attend the SCO Summit, delivered Modi's remarks at the extended format meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State here in the Kazakh capital.

Bengaluru airport tops in perishable exports from India for fourth year.

The Kempegowda International Airport here said on Thursday it continues to serve as the number one airport in India for exporting perishables for the fourth consecutive year. The airport recorded a total perishable cargo tonnage of 63,188 metric tons in 2023-24, an 18 per cent growth compared to the previous financial year, according to the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which owns and operates it.

H5N1 strain of bird flu continues to spread in US, India steps up vigil.

The Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) strain H5N1 has spread across 12 states in the United States, with outbreaks reported in dairy cattle and 48 poultry farms.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as many as 1,156 outbreaks have been reported since the virus was first detected in January 2022.

Philippines: Rice imports to reach 3.8-MMT in 2025 — FAO.

The Philippines will import 3.8-million metric tons (MMT) of rice next year, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has predicted.
Meanwhile, local rice consumption next year is expected to be over 17-MMT, while domestic production of the staple grain is estimated to be 13-MMT.
