Bengal tops meat production, posts growth in milk, egg output.

West Bengal has emerged as India's top producer of meat, contributing 12.6% to the national output, according to Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2024, published by Centre. The achievement was largely attributed to robust poultry production in the state, surpassing Uttar Pradesh (12.3%), Maharashtra (11.3%), Telangana (10.8%) and Andhra Pradesh (10.4%).

CGS-NPF to enhance post-harvest financing and agricultural support.

The Government of India launched the Credit Guarantee Scheme for e-NWR Based Pledge Financing (CGS-NPF) on 16 December 2024, providing a Rs.1,000-crore corpus to support post-harvest financing for farmers. Under this scheme, farmers can access credit by pledging their produce stored in Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) accredited warehouses, backed by electronic negotiable warehouse receipts (e-NWRs).
