India urges new push for EU trade talks

India has called for an urgent meeting of Indian and European Union negotiators to give a new life to stalled negotiations towards a trade agreement between the two. Anand Sharma, India’s commerce minister, is seeking an “urgent meeting of the chief negotiators in less than two weeks” to help finalise an agreement, which would bring together 1.7bn people, more than a quarter of the world’s population.

India-France bilateral trade touches €7.6 billion

The India-France bilateral trade had grown by 6 per cent to €7.46 billion. The European country is the 9th largest foreign investor in India with a cumulative investment of approximately $3 billion during the period April 2000 to June 2012. Stating this Bradley Joslove of the India Desk and representing the Business Law Firm, Franklin from Paris said India is the 13th largest foreign investor in France in terms of project numbers.

Govt seeks to double food production in five years

The increase in food prices over the last year has not only burdened the common man while severely impacting economically weaker sections of society, it has also cast a shadow on the Indian growth rate with its inflationary impact. Inaugurating the “Doubling Food Production in Five Years” conference, President Pranab Mukherjee said, “food deprivation should not be allowed to continue in India and was hopeful of early passage of the proposed Food Bill.

New Mangalore Port creates new record in export box loading in mainline vessel

New Mangalore Port has begun loading 250 export containers in a mainline vessel. M.S. Balani, Traffic Manager of New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), said here that this is the highest export loading in a mainline vessel at New Mangalore Port. He said that the mainline container vessel of Pacific International Lines (PIL) – m.v. Hans Pepenburg -- from East Africa, which called at New Mangalore Port on Monday, commenced unloading of 247 containers of raw cashew for distribution among various cashew processing units situated in and around Mangalore.
