EGoM likely to meet soon on wheat, sugar exports

The Empowered Group of Ministers is likely to meet soon to consider a proposal from the Agriculture Ministry to allow wheat exports in the wake of bumper production. "The EGoM is expected to meet in a week or 10 days," Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia said here today.

AP govt seeks export of 2.5 million tons of non-basmati rice

The Andhra Pradesh government has requested the Union Food Ministry to allow export of 2.5 million tonnes of non-basmati rice from the state. The export of non-basmati rice has been banned since April, 2008 in the wake of high food inflation.

This summer it is destination Africa for India Inc. Political leaders, industrialists and businessmen are increasingly looking to tap the resource-rich countries of the world’s second largest continent even as two-way trade between India and Africa is poised to reach $70 billion by 2015 from $46 billion at present.

UK wheat exports fall as inventories dwindle
19 May 2011
UK wheat exports fell in March to their weakest in the 2010-11 crop year as a squeeze in supplies took hold, with shipments slow to destinations both inside and outside the European Union. The UK shipped 100,673 tonnes of wheat, less than one-quarter of the peak levels last autumn when buyers clamoured for supplies to replace those lost after drought hit Black Sea exporters.
